Therapeutic actions: • Zea mays is one of the rare germinated seeds used as embryonic tissue by gemmotherapy. Little known, this seed has some interesting properties at cardiac level. • The glycerine macerate of Zea mays rootlets is recommended in the healing process after myocardial infarction. It is also active in coronary heart disease. • Selective anti-inflammatory of the arteries and myocardium. • Produces a fall in blood transaminase (AST / ALT) levels post myocardial infarction. • Favours the cicatrisation of the myocardium post-infarction. • Is also considered a kidney and liver drainer. • Diuretic properties
Clinical indications: • Cardiovascular: Sequelae of myocardial infarctions. Coronary insufficiency. • Renal: For kidney and urinary conditions (adjuvant for), cystitis and pyelonephritis (acting as a diuretic and anti-inflammatory).
Consider in combination with: • Alnus glutinosa, Cornus sanguinea, post MI, to treat or prevent sequela • Quercus robur, Ribes nigrum and/or Sequoia gigantea, to prevent fatigue from the dosing of Zea mays • Syringa vulgaris, for insufficient blood flow to the coronary arteries • Can be used instead of Juniperus communis in some cases when liver and kidney drainage is indicated • Crataegus oxyacantha, to support heart strength and function, and in cases of CHF

Dose
Adults and children > 12 years • Depending on the patient and the problem being treated, 5-10 drops daily are recommended. • To start with, 5 drops should be taken; this dose can be increased by one drop daily to reach a maximum of 15-20 drops daily, until the required and stable result is acquired. The dosage is then maintained for the remainder of the treatment period. • The length of the treatment depends on the health problem and the gemmotherapy remedy used. Normally it is recommended that the treatment be continued for three (3) months. The treatment should last for a minimum of three weeks and can be repeated several times, allowing for example a treatment-free week between each course. • One or two remedies, the most applicable, can be combined; more are not usually necessary. However, the complexes have the advantage of combining several extracts in one formula, thus facilitating the treatment. A complex may, if considered necessary, be combined with another complex or individual bud extract.
