Vaccinium vitis-idaea (Cowberry) young shoots
Therapeutic actions:
• Vaccinium vitis-idaea is a female oriented remedy, recommended at menopause (contains a certain amount of estradiol).
• Detoxify & repairs the intestinal mucosa.
• Helps restore normal bowel flora.
• Female senescence.
• Remineralises, facilitates calcium absorption in the colon.
• Acts as a remedy of premature aging at different stages of biological decompensation (conjunctival hyalinosis).
• Promotes the elimination of uric acid, urea and cholesterol levels.
• It is a good urinary drainer - disinfectant.
• Plant indicated when hyalinization (descriptive histologic term referring to any alteration giving a homogenous, glassy pink appearance in routine histologic sections - not a specific pathology but the common result of multiple different mechanisms on tissues and organs) of tissues is the major problem.
• In summary the macerate of Vaccinium vitis-idaea is a general-purpose remedy, and a polyvalent antiageing remedy recommended for the elderly.
Clinical indications:
• Menopause: Hot flushes, antispasmodic, uterine fibroids, ovarian hyalinosis (postmenopausal).
• Vascular: Vaccinium vitis-idaea also works on arteries and arterioles, of which it prevents the sclerosis and the degeneration of the wall. Arteriosclerosis of the arteries with wall degeneration.
• Hyalinosis: Arterial, conjunctival, viral pericarditis, thyroid adenoma.
• Musculoskeletal: Osteoporosis (facilitates the absorption of calcium), evolutive chronic polyarthritis.
• Uro-genital: Acts on calcium, oxalate stones, nephritis, prostatic problems, recurring cystitis (effective urinary disinfectant + diuretic action and is useful in recurrent cystitis and as drainer of the bladder).
• Digestive: Intestinal disinfectant. Bipolar diphasic action, inert colon stimulant in constipation or sedative and antispasmodic in diarrhea. IBS, colitis, colic, duodenum & peptic ulcers, diverticulosis, pseudomembranous colitis post-antibiotic therapy. Constitutes a remarkable intestinal drainer and disinfectant.
• Respiratory: Pulmonary fibrosis, long term complications of pulmonary embolism.
Consider in combination with:
• Quercus robur, Rubus idaeus, for menopausal symptoms
• Tilia tomentosa, Ficus carica, for colitis
• Juglans regia, for post antibiotic rebalance of gut mucosa
• Rubus fructicosus, Sequoia gigantea, for osteoporosis (Vaccinium vitis-idaea for women, Sequoia gigantea for men)
• Rubus fructicosus, Alnus incana, for uterine fibroids
0.05 ml (extract 1:20 …. 2.5 mg )
Adults and children > 12 years
• Depending on the patient and the problem being treated, 5-10 drops daily are recommended.
• To start with, 5 drops should be taken; this dose can be increased by one drop daily to reach a maximum of 15-20 drops daily, until the required and stable result is acquired. The dosage is then maintained for the remainder of the treatment period.
• The length of the treatment depends on the health problem and the gemmotherapy remedy used. Normally it is recommended that the treatment be continued for three (3) months. The treatment should last for a minimum of three weeks and can be repeated several times, allowing for example a treatment-free week between each course.
• One or two remedies, the most applicable, can be combined; more are not usually necessary. However, the complexes have the advantage of combining several extracts in one formula, thus facilitating the treatment. A complex may, if considered necessary, be combined with another complex or individual bud extract.
Clinical experience:
• Do not use at the beginning of the treatment in cases of auto-immune diseases, use when the treatment is in the reconstructive phase.
• Do not use for disorders associated to elevated estrogen levels (endometriosis / adenomyosis / hormone-dependant cancer).
Pregnant women should avoid taking bud extracts with hormonal action like Quercus robur (Oak), Rubus idaeus (Raspberry), Sequoia gigantea (Giant redwood), Vaccinium vitis-idaea (Cowberry).
