Description

Huperzine A is an extract from a club moss (Huperzia serrata). It has the ability to strongly inhibit acetylcholinesterase, the enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in memory and learning. Huperzine A is used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (a condition associated with low acetylcholine), memory and learning enhancement as well as age-related memory impairment.

1 serving (1 capsule) 1-2x daily or as directed.

Potential side effects/Safety

Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding, heart disease, epilepsy, peptic ulcers and some lung conditions. Huperzine A appears to be safe when used for short durations (i.e. less than one month). It may cause gastrointestinal discomfort for some individuals. Due to its strong anticholinesterase activity, Huperzine A could cause a cholinergic reaction. Huperzine side effects may include sweating, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, blurred vision and cramps.
