Description

Cramp bark is a relaxer of muscular tension and spasm. It has two main areas of use: in muscular cramps and in ovarian and uterine muscle problems. Cramp bark will relax the uterus and so relieve painful cramps associated with periods (dysmenorrhea). It may be used to protect against threatened miscarriage. Its astringent action gives it a role in the treatment of excessive blood loss in periods and bleeding associated with the menopause. Cramp bark is said to be useful in cases of bronchial, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and skeletal muscle spasms. The herb is also mildly sedative and helps to relieve many nervous conditions.

Potential side effects/Safety

Caution in pregnancy. Caution with blood thinners as it contains coumarin. Caution with hypotension. Contains salicin and coumarin. Drug interactions may exist.
