Indications

Bowel Cleansing Powder

Used as a bulk-forming laxative to provide gentle relief of constipation and/or irregularity. Used to promote bowel movements by increasing bulk volume and water content.

Ingredients

Medicinal Ingredients (per teaspoon): Psyllium husk and seed [Plantago ovata Forssk. (Plantaginaceae)] 4.576 g

Non-Medicinal Ingredients: Slippery Elm Bark Powder

Description

A natural solution to sluggish bowels, this dry herbal formulation is blended to help promote elimination of wastes through the intestinal tract and improve the digestion and absorption of nutrients.

Quantity

300 g

Dose

Adults and adolescents ≥ 13 years: 1-1 1/2 teaspoons 1-3x per day. Mix with 138 ml of liquid (water, milk, fruit juice or similar beverage) per 1 tsp.

Children and adolescents 6-12 years: 3/4 teaspoon 1x per day. Mix with 100 ml of liquid (water, milk, fruit juice or similar beverage) per 3/4 tsp.

Stir briskly and drink immediately. In addition, drink 6-8 glasses of water every day.

Take 2 hours before or after taking other medications.

Effects observed 12-24 hours after first dose, and may take 2-3 day

Potential side effects/Safety

Cautions and Warnings: Consult a health care practitioner before use: if you have symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or fever (as these could be signs of abnormal constrictions of the gastrointestinal tract, diseases of the oesophagus and/or the superior opening of the stomach (cardia), potential or existing intestinal blockage, paralysis of the intestine, megacolon, fecal impaction, inflamed bowel or appendicitis); if you are taking medications that inhibit peristaltic movement (e.g. opoids, loperamide).
Consult a health care practitioner immediately if you experience chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty in swallowing or breathing after taking this product.
Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms worsen or if laxative effect does not occur with seven days.

Contraindications: Do not use: if you have difficulty swallowing; if you have diabetes mellitus in which blood sugar is difficult to regulate; if you are experiencing a sudden change in bowel habits that has persisted for more than 2 weeks, undiagnosed rectal bleeding, or failure to defecate following the use of another laxative product.

Known Adverse Reactions: May cause temporary gas and/or bloating. Hypersensitivity, such as allergy, has been known to occur following inhaled and/or ingested psyllium; in which case, discontinue use.
